     I remember as a youth receiving a diary with a key.  In boring spells I would pick it up daring to write anything very personal.  Who were they fooling?  You'll never stumble across it to read what I wasn't ready to disclose.  I didn't even know I had a voice and certainly didn't know how to begin expressing thoughts, questions and longings that were shut up in my bones.

     It was in Middle school that we had to write a poem in our English class.  I'll never forget it.....the teacher, the school and my very first poem.  The teacher was so impressed that she forwarded it into a poetry contest and won.  I was then invited to a Writer's Conference at a local University.  Little did I know, it was then that my passion was introducing itself to me.  Clueless that that season would change the course of my life.  I continued writing poems which perpetually became a diary of poems.

     My mother would coordinate special events and would summons me to do readings.  I was very timid about sharing pieces of my poetic diary with people who thought they knew me well and with strangers. Because people didn't know the depths of where those words came from.  Did it even make sense to them?  Or was it just entertaining?  Request for copies began coming.  My mother taught me early on to copyright my work before releasing anything publicly as others invited me to do readings.

     As time went on, so did the writings.  I started hearing my voice within and my writings gradually became more and more seasoned.  Now at a level of comfort to intensely engage with an audience with stunning feedback,  I'll share this Gift of writing in hopes of a Divine impact....Jus Sayn!!!

Welcome back to Thursday's segment of Jus Sayn!

 

"Ingredients"

     I'm thinking we can have bacon, scrambled eggs and some French toast for breakfast this particular morning as I made my way to the kitchen.   After meticulously aligning the bacon in the pan, I began to retrieve the necessary ingredients for the French toast.  Bread...got it, ground cinnamon, eggs and milk....yes, got it.  In search for the vanilla extract, nutmeg or allspice but there were none to find.  I knew I would have to improvise.  Gazing in the refrigerator, my eyes fixed on a bag of miniature marshmallows.  Thinking to myself, huh, how about melting a teaspoon of butter then place 5-7 marshmallows, give that a stir and let it cool for a couple of minutes. 

     Periodically checking the sizzling bacon, I cracked two eggs in a bowl, placed cinnamon, raw sugar, some milk, and the melted butter with marshmallows and integrated them.  I then dipped the bread on both sides into the batter and on to the buttered skillet it went. 

     Breakfast turned out to be scrumptious!  Melted marshmallows in French toast....who would have ever thought of?  Or thought how great the turn-out would be when compiling the Ingredients of Love?  Jus Sayn!!!

Step 1:  Usually I'd preheat the oven, but in this case room temperature is fine,

Today they'll be no interruptions as you and I share 'Quality Time'.

 

Step 2:  Lick the bowl after mixing 'Trust and Honesty',

They aid in nutrition and is healthy for you and me.

 

Step 3:  Now don't forget to check on 'Intimacy', it has the tendency to come to a boil,

Then spread 'Respect' all over and cover with foil.

 

Step 4:  Let cool, then top with 'Communication', something we take advantage of,

It may not be obvious but those are the Ingredients of Love!

      When building a legacy against all odds.....although it may look impossible don't focus on that.  Know that deep inside the dream is alive and through difficulties you will survive.  Answers may not come when you seek them, rely solely on your source of strength to come.  Tribulations are real but destiny shall be fulfilled.  It's not easy sometimes to maintain yet realities of dreams remain.  Keep thriving, surviving and you'll get there, through the turmoil and warfare.  Stay on your grind, no work is in vain;  it is only a matter of time in this Entrepreneur game.  Jus Sayn!!!

     Are you one of those who has been going through an emotional boot-camp?  Reconstructing who or how you once were as you await the person of your dreams.  I've always believed that in time all things shall be revealed.  Oh so real would that imagery become within the perimeters of my own personal life.  Awaiting that "one" as we individually transform into the person even more desirable for each other. 

     Patience and faith, for certain are lessons I'm learning.  Embracing change allowing maturity to evolve as I become a better me.  Understanding though sometimes it's uncomfortable while finding my way, the things I desire most eventually will come One Day.......Jus Sayn!!!

"Dip Me in the River"

Good Monday morning.....I hope your weekend was pleasant.  Welcome to another week of Jus Sayn!!!  Today I will be sharing with you about a historical river.

"The River"

There lies a river, a very unique river.  As a matter of fact the only river in Virginia that begins at one end and runs harmoniously to the other end of the state consisting of fresh and salt water.

The James River, named after King James of England, is one of the busiest and largest harbors in the world.  Before the first permanent settlement of Jamestown, VA the Powhatan and other native tribes occupied this river for bathing and survival while migrating between seasons.

The James River cuffs the peninsula of my hometown.  Countless memories stretched out throughout my life of splashing and swimming in this pool of the earth.  Whether casting fishing rods and crabs nets, scribbling in the sand, skipping rocks, watching fish jump in and out the water or just feeding the feathered creatures upon its shoreline, in so many entities the James River is definitely a place of tranquility that I embrace, relish and respect.

I would also come to know this river when the cards of life dealt a troublesome hand.  Many hours have been spent by its welcoming side thinking, relaxing and gazing at some of the most beautiful sunsets.  Capturing the reflection of the moon cascading on the river's endless waves in motion, I too begin reflecting on the natural ability of rivers cleansing and replenishing itself by the soul of the Earth.  It is here that I so desire of the same cleansing..."Dip me in the River".  Jus Sayn!!!

     We all have urges that want to be fulfilled, physically and emotionally.  Some urges can lead us into false realities made of foundations of sand, never to remain permanent.  Many entities of this type of urge is birthed from lust.
 
     When urges are succumb by healthy substances for unselfish reasons it builds a firm foundation to stand.  The essence in which mankind truly desires.....Love.

     Be wise where you place your heart and trust, I'll choose love any day over the dark side of lust.   Jus Sayn!!!

     Today I'd like to touch on the subject of Art.  Art, deriving in so many forms:  Sports, Culinary, Performing, Technology, Architecture and so forth, all stemming from creativity.  The Art of creativity continuously reinvents itself through the instrument of the mind for the purpose of production.

     Some of my best art comes in writing poetry, songs, quotes and other creative contents.  Thankfully, I also receive many compliments in my work of Art from acting, cooking and doing hair.  I believe we all have forms of a creative niche. Ones we favor more and some we are just naturally good at.

     The Art of creativity is phenomenal, its ambition won't cease or faint,  so I'll showcase through ink this picture for you I paint.  Jus Sayn!!!

The remnant of evil is always far more felt

     Is it me or does it seem that sometimes in life the more you put your best foot forward you get thrown back?  Trying to do things the right way, being up-beat and optimistic just to have the rewards return seemingly slow.  Deferred progress .......what a hope killer.  There has to be an underlying message I keep telling myself.  Remembering clichés like "what goes around, comes around", "anything worth having is worth the work", and "good guys always come in last". 
   
     So out of frustration a letter was composed and dispatched to Karma wanting answers of its ethics of work, because hanging in the balance are strong emotions awaiting in red alert.  Jus Sayn!!!

Dear Karma,  I know this may come as a surprise

But indications of bias reflect in your eyes.

Is there a law in your nature I may have overlooked?

Either you ways are peculiar or are you overbooked?

You always seem to be so preoccupied

I'm still waiting for good deeds to be multiplied.

See I interpret your law as you reap what you sow

But it seems the bad out-weighs the good with your flow.

Am I picking up the tab from generations before me?

Seems the harder I try the more odds are against me.

Deposits of kindness I've yet to see return

Only lessons of disappointments I've too often learned.

     A year or so ago my 6yr old son and I were headed to Norfolk for church.  I had been watching B. Courtney McBath ministries via T.V for a couple of months and felt compelled to start visiting.  This was cool, after service we could stop at ODU and visit my daughter too.

     On this particular Sunday, I handed my son a couple of dollars for himself and for church.  As we made our way to children's church, I signed him in and started for the Sanctuary.  Now service has ended and my son and I were exiting the building.  "Come on son, let's hurry", I said as we swiftly made our way over to the crosswalk where the Officer had traffic stopped so church goers could safely cross the street.

     Once we were on the sidewalk, with excitement, my son begins to tell me about children's church, what he learned and things they did.  Then I asked him did he remember to give an offering?  While digging in his pocket he began pulling the money out showing me that he still had all of it.  Curiously, looking at him I said, "You didn't give Jesus a dollar?"  Then he lifted up both his hands with each to his side and marveled, "I didn't see him in there!"  "OHHH Lord!"  hysterically laughing was all I could do......A moment in time I will never forget. Lol......Jus Sayn!!!

I wonder why joy comes with birth

knowing the struggles of this earth?

Why isn't it a crime to throw food away

When famish lives strong from day to day?

I wonder why we judge people that we don't know

Has society somehow taught us so?

Why doesn't family matter anymore

Could that be why children's values are poor?

And what's the harm of prayer in schools

Fear of an antidote for the rising of fools?

I also wonder how we get peace from war

Is it really worth all the killing for?

How can a parent abandon their own child

So many lame excuses....that's foul?

I look to Heaven when times get too rough

And can't help but wonder if he's had enough?

     So far away secluded but safe, I awaken without an annoying alarm or background noise.  Feeling well rested I began sifting through thoughts for this fresh day's journey.  Oh yeah...actually there is no schedule or plans.  Just go about the day as it is and enjoying every minute of it.  I gradually get up to take a stroll outside grasping for a feel of the weather.  Ahhh, so refreshing....The gentle breeze coupled with the sun's warmth encompassing my physique.  I purposely stalled allowing the serene of the moment to saturate my being.

     Then sounds the chime indicating a new text message that came through disintegrating my serene vision.  Realizing I'm at home I began following up on the text message while tossing clothes in the dryer occasionally glancing at the pack of chicken waiting to be cleaned, seasoned and cooked;  I let out a sigh.  It's definitely a moment of clarity that I'm in need of a break!  A break from the same monotony on a different day....The need to be redeemed, Yes, the need To Get Away!  Jus Sayn!!!
